Dublin Team

Every year an U14 Dublin Basketball Team is selected to travel to Belgium to compete in "Tournoi de Liege". This team is selected from all clubs that wish to send their elite players to open trials usually held after Christmas.
Carmel Kilmartin(Tolka Rovers) and Eddie Guilmartin(Templeogue) have been running this program for the last ten years. It gives boys from this age group an opportunity to compete in a FIBA recognised international tournament. Teams from all over Europe attend and it gives the boys an opportunity to see the level of basketball being played out there. Last Yr the team went to Stockholm as Liege dates changed and this yr they will travel to Wanze in Belgium to play. This blog is designed to give an update to players and parents on the lead up to our trip and will be updated with results of games too. Hope it helps

  1. The Dublin team won their third game of the tournament by 7 points - meaning 3 and 0 for day 1. It is always hard to win in Europe, and this is a fantastic start for the boys. Reports from Belgium indicate that it was the help defence that won the day in the final game today, with David Drumm putting in a MVP performance amongst excellent displays from all of the boys. Up by 18 - 12 at half time, the lads had to battle hard and work for each other to maintain the gap and win the day. Tomorrow - Friday - is a rest day, with battle due to re-commence on Saturday morning at 10:00 against Villers. Go Dublin !!!

  2. Congratulations to the u14 Boys, who arrived back at Dublin airport in the early hours of this morning, (Monday 17th May 2010), from Wanze, Belgium, where they had competed on the Dublin under 14 team in an international tournament.

The Dublin boys had a fantastic tournament, overcoming teams from Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg and Holland on the way to reaching the final!
Unfortunately, the “boys in blue” were piped at the post – losing by 3 points in overtime.

The boys represented themselves, their families, their clubs and Dublin in exemplary fashion, both on and off the court. Over the course of the tournament, they made many good friends and impressed all with their tenacious defence and searing attacking play on the court, and their singing ability off the court.

The team spirit amongst this group of basketball warriors was incredible, and friendships and bonds have been formed on this trip that will last a lifetime.

Great thanks is due to Coach Carmel Kilmartin, Manager, Mary Guilmartin and selector / coach Eddie Guilmartin, and the travelling supporters club of family and friends.

    Oisin Dowling – Tolka
